When Jake was young every night I would put him to bed and instead of reading him a bedtime story we would make up a story. I’d start by saying part of a story, then Jake would say part of the story, then it would be my turn and so on. Usually the stories never really made any sense but now and again we’d get some great stories. During that time, I would use my phone and record our voices making up stories and forward them on to Grandad and Nana in England. Years later I listened to the stories again and decided to write them down. A few more years later I decided to illustrate the stories and make them into Children’s books. Below are a couple of books that actually made it to the finished production. We hope you enjoy them.

The Dream Name

“The Dream Name” is based on a true story. Many years ago my wife and I were struggling with names for our son, then one night I had what can only be described as a ‘vivid dream’, while I was in the dream I traveled forward in time and meet myself. During my dream time-travel experience, I found out what my future son’s name would be. When I woke up, I described the dream to my wife and from that dream, we decided to call our son ‘JAKE’. Years went by and I would tell our son many bedtime stories, including “The Dream Name”, later my son and I wrote a draft of “The Dream Name”.

Years went by and I would tell our son many bedtime stories, including “The Dream Name”, years later my son and I wrote the first draft of “The Dream Name”, which started the process of turning a dream into reality. We are now proud to present a fully illustrated and published true life story. We hope you enjoy reading “The Dream Name” as much as we enjoyed making it.

Book Inspiration

The inspiration for the book came from a vivid dream, I woke and still remembered everything, and I told my wife all about the dream, we both knew that the name was ‘just right’.

The Dream Name 2Three years later I found myself telling bedtime stories to a very inquisitive little boy, ‘The Dream Name’ came up on a few occasions along with lots of others, most true but some made up between the two of us. During many of these bedtime stories, I would record our voices making up stories and send them to granddad and grandmother.

Another Two years passed by and I found myself trying to teach a very smart little boy how to read and write. We decided to write down ‘The Dream Name’, which he’d heard so many times previous. We also did a rough drawing for each page of ‘The Dream Name’. We took a photo of each page and sent them to granddad and grandmother.

Another year passed by and granddad sent us a hard drive with backups of all his photos, I was looking through these photos, some were black and white of long lost family members, some were recent, then I came across the photos of ‘The Dream Name’, I quizzed granddad about the photos and he said he’d enjoyed listening to and reading about the story. The Dream Name 4 I decided to type the story down, page for page. I also emailed ‘The Dream Name’ to my good friend Eddie Skelson who at the time was a budding author. He kindly edited my spelling and grammar and gave me a few pointers for the story.

Another year passed, I was searching through old emails and came across ‘The Dream Name’. I looked at the old pictures and it came to me, if I could get an illustrator to turn the rough drawings into beautiful illustrations I could put everything together and make a story that everyone could enjoy. I had another idea; if I took photos where each scenario took place in years to come the little boy would remember.

The Dream Name 3Time passes so fast when you have a little boy around you, they give you hope and life and happiness in so many ways and keep you going with a smile even when times are hard. I wondered about how he would look back at these times that we both cherished at the time, would he remember, probably not he was only a little boy. This book was put together for our memories.

Special Thanks

Jake Jolley for the part he played to make this story so meaningful and special. Thankfully he likes his dream name.

Yan Jolley for her eternal patience. At no point was any substance added into any drink.

The Dream Name 1Glynn & Kathleen Jolley for always giving encouragement in everything I do. For instilling in me, from an early age, to be a good person and look for the good in everyone. For the record I don’t believe in luck, I believe everyone makes their own luck, but yes I’ve had a very lucky life (so far).

Eddie Skelson for not laughing too hard while correcting my mediocre grammar and spelling. Your ramblings on social media have me bursting out laughing, never stop writing.

Alex Klein for the ‘The Dream Name’, your friendship, your pure heart and our endless talks about nothing in particular.

Finding The Ring

The inspiration for the book came from losing my wedding ring, while hiking up a mountain with my son on my shoulders, we searched and searched for 6 months and eventually found the ring.

People believe in all sorts of things; aliens, magic, religion and super hero’s. I’m not a believe in any of those things, but I do believe in imagination. A child’s imagination is amazing, unfortunately, parent’s, teachers, society teach the children that somethings are not possible. I tried to capture my son’s imagination by taking it in turn to make up stories at bedtime, while recording our voices on my phone.

These are the ramblings of our imagination.

Another year passed, the first edition of “The Dream Name” was printed, so myself and Jake sat down and listened to the stories about “Finding The Ring”, we wrote down the stories, and started the long process of editing the story until we had something worth reading.

We hope to finish “Finding The Ring” before the end of the year 2016. We will let everyone know when we are closer to the event. If you would like to participate and become a proof reader please drop me an Email.
